About Me

Hello, fellow writers! My name is Shanthi (shahn-tee), and I am a developmental editor, avid reader, and enthusiastic writer from Australia. My passion for books and storytelling stretches far beyond my professional work as an editor. You'll never find me without a book in my hand, and in my spare time, when I'm not reading or writing stories of my own, I'll be critically deconstructing brilliant novels to see how the author achieved such a compelling story. To bring my literary obsession full circle, I have also been a traditional bookbinder for eight years and continue to further my skills in this dying craft, while also expanding my practice to include book restoration and repair.

 

I have over four years of experience in writing, editing, and publishing from both my academic studies and working with private clients. During my time at Elephant Page Publishing as an Editorial Associate, I worked with emerging Australian authors, copyediting and structurally editing a range of manuscripts, including historical crime novels and children's books, some of which are now being traditionally published. I am also an Associate member of The Institute of Professional Editors Limited (IPEd), the professional association for Australian and New Zealand editors.

 

As a professional editor, I strive to put your manuscript first and be as objective as possible to help you achieve the best outcome. Your story matters, and it's my goal to help strengthen your creative vision, your way.

Writing, as with editing and all the various fields within the creative arts, is subjective. My advice as an editor is not the final verdict, and it is not my job to dictate what should be changed or exactly how to do it. My job is to help you discover the best solutions for the tricky problems lurking within your manuscript. Editing is a collaboration that should be approached with empathy, open-mindedness, and a healthy dose of curiosity. I will help foster your creativity and enhance your voice to help you bring your vision to life.
